Welcome to VWC AKA (Vintage Watch Corner) I am presenting to you as very discriminating timepiece. Have you heard of Zenith? If not, p[permit me to introduce you to an extraordinary watch. Why don’t we get a little history lesson.

This is an extraordinary watch offering. It is a mouthful. it is called a Hermetic Trench / WW1 styled wrist watch. This case has threaded bezel that unscrews from the case, that is the only egress into the watch. This was an ingenious engineering design to help with the longevity of the watch.

By manufacturing all essential watch components within the same facility and producing standardized parts that could be used interchangeably to build a variety of different movements—in essence, creating one of the very first industrial watchmaking operations—Favre-Jacot was instrumental in ushering watchmaking into the modern age.

The watch I am presenting to you was made specifically for the English market. What a treasure. Waltham like many other movement manufactures collaborated with English case makers to distribute the Waltham brand. Permit me to digress. Match movement manufactures were not allowed to export to the UK any complete watch. There were heavy taxes and tariffs on completed imported watches, this was done to protect the UK market. So, Waltham sent their completed movements to the UK, they partnered with a venerable English watch case manufacturer name Dennison ( Dennison was already supplying case’s too Rolex, Omega, Longines, Waltham and many more.

Notice the bezel I the top of the watch) has a “Coin” edge, this design element helps the watch repair gain access to the movement, The bezel unscrews from the watch case, the movement the swings out on a hinge for easy access.

So, what do I have for you. Think 1930, think Waltham WW1 styled watch that has all the hallmarks of a WW1 watch. Don’t worry, I am going to share why!

The watch has no traditional case back, the case back is solid to seal off the bottom of the watch to prevent moisture, dust and the elements. It has a name! It’s called a Semi Hermetic Case.

To egress the case you carefully unscrew the bezel ( The coin edge ring on the top of the watch, it threads on and off) Once the bezel is unscrewed the dial and movement are exposed. The movement comes out intact with a case back on the watch. Ingenious I say! These were more expensive cases to manufacturer. Rolex, Omega, Waltham, Longines , Mappin( Famous English Jeweler) and many more employed this design.

What have I done to this Picasso

The dial was professionally refinished to exacting standards; it is exactly the same style

The case has hand polished to bring out the luster of stainless steel

It was very rare to find “Hermetic” in many watches, gold, gold filled and especially sterling silver were the metals of choice

    New old stock crystal

Complete mechanical tear down service by a watcher maker that is certified in Rolex, Vacheron, Breitling Panerai and many more, he is

The outside case is sterling silver, the inner case

The watch case is smaller than watches today. This watch is 30.20MM wide. About the size of a Kennedy Half Dollar.

The dial is a simple silver dial with an outer track of minute markers. The watch is dressed with Arabic numbers every 5 minutes. It is quietly elegant. The coin edge bezel has design elements of Patek, Jaeger and Vacheron.
