Welcome to Vintage Watch Corner. If you stop and think about vintage watches they a great source of recollection if you happened to to know the stories that are associated with it. Some of the stories may make you blush.

A watch that is solid 14 karat white gold that has survived multiple “Gold Melt” periods deserves to be restore. This is an Elgin that was put together in 1932, the wrist watch was just starting to become more socially acceptable. The wrist watch really was born somewhere during WW1 (1914-1918) What Else. The Great Depression was 3 years old. Think bout this, Who could afford a solid gold watch during the depression. a very intriguing story I might add.

The date of this watch transports it to 1932, the early genesis of the wristwatch era. Elgin and independent jewelers would harvest ladies pocket watch movements to repurpose them into the “New Wrist Watch”.

This offering is the exception, this movement being rectangular was specifically made for a wrist watch, not a retrofit. A fascinating story that will never be told.

Look carefully at the inside case back, it has Elgin, we know this movement was made for this watch. In many cases a Waltham movement would of been fitted to a generic case, the wild Wild West of the early wrist watch. This was standard operating procedure during the early days. This offering can be directly linked to Elgin. This case and movement were made for each other.

One characteristic of vintage watches are their sizes. They are much smaller than modern watches today. Keep that in mind as you drool over the selection.

The dial was professional refinished to bring out the elegance, a silver butler color with raised gold numbers, it is an elegant look!
