  1927. Think back to a time of excess, a time of prosperity for America. In two short years, it would come to an end. What a fabulous offering. Beautiful detailed milgrain accents on the case, black design touches bring a soft contrast to the case. This has Art Deco all over the design.
  
  The case was made specifically for Waltham. Once again, look in the inside case back and you will see 6/0 ( size of the movement and case) a “W” stamped. This means Waltham.
  
  The movement is part of the infamous “Jeweled Series” by Waltham. These were 6/0 movements initially used in ladies pocket watch’s. When the wrist watch evolution started, they use these 6/0 movements to build new men’s wrist watches. Yes, these are grade names for the better of the 6/0 size movements. 1911 and 1917 catalogs list four grades: Diamond, Riverside, Ruby and Sapphire. A 1921 catalog only lists the Riverside, Sapphire and a 7-jewel unnamed model. In addition to wrist and pendant watches these were also the movement for the stylish and thin Opera Watch.
  
  The "Diamond" grade has 17 jewels and was the highest grade in the jewel series. It was also produced marked both "Diamond" and "Maximus". It has a gold train, gold jewel settings, diamond endstone and was probably position adjusted. The later "Emerald", although more highly jeweled (21) does not have anywhere near the finish of the Diamond or Maximus.
  
  Next in line, below these, are the Riverside (17j with gold settings), the Ruby (17j or 15j) and the Sapphire (15j), in that order. There were also some unnamed grades (7-15j) in this size, but although 6/0 I suspect may not have been considered "jewel series".

  This case is sublime. The charm and Art Deco influence are unmistakable. This would make a great treasure to own. The dial is also pro of the charming history. It is a silver dial with out minute track border, it is decorated with small delicate floral motifs in the center. The dial pulls the watch together. One look says it all.
